CAC hosts the second presentation of artist Widline Cadet’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States. Organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum and curated by Kristen Gaylord, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts, the exhibition explores Black diasporic life through Cadet's deeply personal examination of emigrating from Haiti to the United States, family, memory, and belonging.

After immigrating from Haiti as a child, Cadet began photographing members of her extended family to preserve stories and relationships separated by time and geography. Over the years she has created what she describes as “a living archive,” documenting three generations of her family now living in the United States. The exhibition includes photographs, ceramics, video, vinyl murals, photo-sculpture hybrids, and multimedia installations that expand traditional definitions of photography while exploring themes of immigration, loss, resilience, and cultural connection.

This exhibition was organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum and curated by Kristen Gaylord, Herzfeld Curator of Photography and Media Arts.

Widline Cadet: Seremoni Disparisyon (Ritual [Dis]Appearance) is a Featured Exhibition for the 2026 FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View. Now in its eighth iteration, the Biennial activates over 70 exhibitions at museums, galleries, universities, and public spaces throughout Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Northern Kentucky in October—the largest of its kind in America. The Long View theme considers aspects of time and perspective in photography and film, and how these mediums shape our understanding of the world.
