Exhibition Details
Urban Native Collective is a Cincinnati organization that provides education, advocacy and support on contemporary Indigenous issues and cultivates knowledge about Native American history in local and regional communities. Urban Native Collective presents their seventh Indigenous People’s Day Convergence with the theme Ancestral Visions, Future Dreams. This four-day celebration, which includes this exhibition, focuses on current issues affecting the Indigenous community, their past, their resilience and their bright future.
The Ancestral Visions, Future Dreams exhibition is presented in partnership with Contemporary Arts Center in The Collective Gallery sponsored by P&G in the lower lobby. Ancestral Visions, Future Dreams reflects on the importance of wisdom passed down, highlights the role of ancestral knowledge in shaping contemporary identities, and guides future generations. Artists presented in this exhibition include Don Bailey (Hoopa Valley Tribe), Holly Wilson (Delaware Nation), Roquin Siongco (CHamoru), Chantele Rilatos (Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians), Erika NJ Allen (Guatemalan), Julia Orquera Bianco (Argentinian), Mary Annette Pember (Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe), and Cannupa Hanska Luger (MHA Nation).
There will be a reception for this exhibition on Friday, October 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. and feature performances from the Coopper Face United Powwow Troupe and DJ Creepingbear. Indigenous Chef will have a selection of food items for purchase. The reception and performance are free and open to the public.
