What turns an everyday object into a work of art? Does the artist need to change it in some way? Is it the meaning behind the work? Or the way it’s displayed?

Inspired by Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ work in the CAC’s 5th floor gallery, Take It or Leave It explores the questions that everyday objects as art can raise. In a world where candy from the store is simply a sweet treat, what makes it become something more within the walls of a gallery?

In the CAC's Community Gallery, Take It or Leave It invites visitors to explore these questions by responding to the found objects on display. Your role is now curator and artist! Experiment with the items to create your own work of art. Items can be moved around or altered, you can take them with you, or new items can be left behind. What items speak to you? How will you leave your mark?
