Exhibition Details
“The work of the six artists included in this exhibition represents the most important force in the fine arts today” (Allon T. Schoener, An American Viewpoint). An American Viewpoint debuted in 1963 at the Carew Tower space. The show featured works from 6 Pop artists: Jim Dine, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann. Two other artists, James Rosenquist and George Segal, were planned for the show but their works could not be acquired. The show was one of the first museum exhibitions of its kind.
Artist Jim Dine created the work The Studio: Red Devil Color Chart specifically for the exhibition (Alma Zecevic).
