Join our Spring Artist-in-Residence, Elan Schwartz, every Wednesday 4-6PM at the downtown Public Library and every Saturday 1-3pm right here at the CAC!

Elan's residency will be focusing on themes of love, vulnerability, communication, and empathy. Love is an actionable choice we make every day and it is expressed in just as many different ways as people can receive it. It can show up as taking someone's glasses off for them when they fall asleep, helping someone practice for an interview through the night, hugging in silence for as long as is needed, having an honest conversation with yourself about what changes you need to make in your life. It's not always the easiest or most comfortable option in front of us, and it makes us more self aware and connected to each other because of it. The space is to be used as an environment where people can drop in from the busy world outside and ground oneself in what's important to you. Visitors will be engaged through embroidery/sewing, writing, drawing, independent, and collaborative making to explore the multitude of ways we can love ourselves and each other.

Elan Schwartz (he/they) is an interdisciplinary artist born and based in Cincinnati, OH. They explore the active practice of individualized love in an everyday sustainable manner. Through interactive installations, embroidery, and photography, he exposes his innermost thoughts and emotions. They deliver their vulnerabilities in the hopes that the ones sharing in the work meet them with their own. Schwartz holds a Bachelor's in Fine Arts with a certificate in Pre-Art Therapy from the University of Cincinnati. They have had the honor and joy to work professionally in the local art scene with organizations including Wave Pool, The Well, The Carnegie, ArtWorks, and more. They have exhibited locally and internationally at galleries, organizations, and institutions including The Contemporary Arts Center (Cincinnati), Matca (Vietnam), Hildebrandt Artist Collective (Cleveland), and Visionaries + Voices (Cincinnati). He will be attending a residency at The Peter Bullough Foundation this Fall.
