Talk Low Music Festival
Featuring: Joy Guidry / Niecy Blues / J-M-P Trio at Contemporary Arts Center
Sunday, 9/29 at The Contemporary Arts Center
Whited Sepulchre Records is proud to present the first annual Talk Low Music Festival happening in late September in Cincinnati, OH. Talk Low brings five days of experimental music from around the world to various venues across Downtown, Over-The-Rhine and Northside neighborhoods. Talk Low is organized by the Cincinnati based record label Whited Sepulchre Records and made possible through Artswave funding, presenting sponsor C.U.L.T, Durham Studios and local sponsors.
Talk Low’s mission is to provide unique contexts for deep listening and thoughtful engagement with music. Pulling from ambient, jazz, indie rock, electronic and all the genre shadings in between. Highlights from the roster include the legendary New Age / Ambient artist Laraaji, Kenyan electronic artist KMRU, Peruvian Turntablist / Sound Artist Maria Chavez, NYC House provocateur Galcher Lustwerk, composer and bassoonist Joy Guidry and “Emo-Ambient” pioneer claire rousay. As a new music festival in Ohio, Talk Low fuses the high concept approach of festivals like Big Ears with Midwest D.I.Y energy and roots.
Sunday at the CAC brings Joy Guidry, a NYC based bassoonist and experimental artist. A Texas native, The San Diego Tribune described her work as “lyrical and haunting…hair-raising and unsettling.” Her 2024 release AMEN melds scorching free jazz, blues, gospel and ambient music into a cohesive album that "calls in the power of community when embodying our true selves. " South Carolina based Niecy Blues draws effortless parallels between gospel and experimental production. She follows an opiated route through R&Bx Jazz Ambient shimmers, somewhere between Erykah Badu, Dawuna, Martina Topley-Bird, and Kelela. The trio of Leon Johnson (Airport People), Chaz Prymek (Lake Mary) and JayVe Montgomery will perform for the first time together creating a deep tapestry of shared sound exploration. Join us in the lobby before the event for an improvised ambient jam!
