The current installation of Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ “Untitled” (L.A.), 1991, welcomes visitors with an endless supply of candy sprawled across the CAC’s gallery floor. Guests are invited to select a piece, and even eat it, allowing the experience of the artwork to engage senses not often activated in a gallery setting.
While moments spent in the gallery are usually quick, the impressions or interpretations that visitors take from that time, last longer through memory. In an effort to document the thoughts and feelings this installation provokes; the CAC has invited POEMS WHILE YOU WAIT to further personalize the experience of each visitor. This poetry performance group will set up shop in the gallery, along with their typewriters, collecting inspiration from each visitor’s response to Gonzalez-Torres’ work. Those who choose to participate will leave with a gift of a personalized poem to remember their gallery experience.
The POEMS WHILE YOU WAIT poets will be in the 5thfloor gallery from 12-3pm on August 10 and September 7. Responses take about 15 minutes for each poet to create. Generous support for this project provided by Art Bridges.
