Join the CAC for a special Art Play that celebrates the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra’s upcoming Little Amal event. This family program uses hands-on art making and storytelling to explore the powerful story of Little Amal, the 12-foot puppet of a young Syrian refugee.

Stop by the CAC’s Creativity Center from 10:30-11:30am to learn more about Amal’s journey. Create a traveling case collage inspired by the important memories, scents and sounds from home you’d want to take with you on a journey. Design a self-portrait puppet to walk along with Amal on her visit, adding celebratory drawings and messages to encourage her along the way. Following the program we’ll gather for a family-friendly story time that focuses on belonging and the journeys many take to find home. This special addition of Art Play is free and open to the public. Thursday Art Play is designed especially for children ages 3-6 years old, and their parents or caregivers.

Amal has traveled across 13 countries and met over a million people. This fall she will journey 6,000 miles across the United States in one of the largest free public festivals ever created. Amal’s journey of art and hope celebrates the rich stories of refugees, immigrants, and displaced people, and the communities that welcome them. Everyone is welcome to walk with Amal.

Amal Walks Across America is produced by The Walk Productions in association with Handspring Puppet Company.

Thursday Art Play is sponsored in part by the Charles H Dater Foundation and ArtsWave.
