Phoenix S Brown is a Cincinnati-native,Milwaukee-based artist who received a Bachelors of Fine Arts with an art history minor from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. She is a C-YA Teen Council graduate turned working artist who participated in 2014-15 while attending the School for Creative & Performing Arts.
Through contemporary materials and aesthetic choices, interdisciplinary painting grants Brown the space to highlight conversations around personal narrative and Black feminism and critiques of pop culture and botanical classifications.
During her residency period, Brown will engage participants in virtual workshops. From monotype printmaking to “collage paintings,” participants will be invited to contribute small works of art produced from the workshops to be included in large-scale final pieces. The artist will assemble and collage works of art made by participants in her studio offsite. With prompts including but not limited to identity and nature, Brown aims to collage community narratives and visual responses into unique works of art to be displayed at the CAC.
