Event Details

The Art Academy of Cincinnati's Exhibition Studio Class is proud to present "Listen to Me When I’m Talking to You," a pop-up exhibition hosted by the Contemporary Arts Center, displayed in the lower lobby, and created in response to their current show "Art and Race Matters," the first full retrospective of American artist Robert Colescott (1925—2009).

AAC's Exhibition Studio is an art class in which students develop a body of work to be displayed in a series of pop-up exhibitions around the Greater Cincinnati area. For this popup, the fifteen students of the class were each invited to create an artwork in response to Colescott’s unflinching and often controversial work, which confronts racial and sexual stereotypes, and the examines notions of the “American Dream,” using complex figurative compositions and exuberant color palettes. Unable to be ignored, Colescott’s work has inspired responses in a wide range of media from this group of students, from photography to sculpture to painting and more.

Artists Shown:
Sam Anderson, Ally Cat Bachman, Kyros Barton, Lauren Castillo, Jayla Curtis, Duta Dago, Taylor Dawson, J Haworth-Zermeno, Elena Herren, Francisco Huerta, Jin, Aaron Johnson, Lily Lamping, Walter Montgomery, and Schuyler Smith.

Please join us for a reception in the CAC lower lobby from
6–8PM on Wednesday, November 20th. This event is free and open to the public.
