Experience the exhibition "After the Moment: Reflections on Robert Mapplethorpe" through the eyes of the artists who created the works on view. Leading the first of a series of "After the Moment" tours is Dennis Harrington, Director of the Alice F. and Harris K. Weston Art Gallery. Harrington is one of seven curators from across the tristate region who selected artists to present their work, inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe, in "After the Moment." All of Harrington's selected artists (Alison Crocetta, Mark Flanigan & collaborator Joseph Winterhalter, Diana Duncan Holmes, Cal Kowal, and Anthony Luensman) will join him on the tour.
The Contemporary Arts Center is your Navigator through Contemporary Culture with Guided Gallery Talks beginning this Saturday December 5, 2015. According to Harrington it’s an hour well spent.
”While the issues that surrounded the Mapplethorpe controversy may seem distant today, they still reverberate with us twenty-five years later. The hot-button topics of sex, race and religion are ever-present, ready to rear their contentious heads and divide segments of our complex society. Collectively we tiptoe around these land mines, avoiding the frank and difficult conversations necessary to ferret out our persistent weaknesses, ignorance and hypocrisy.”
