Where Do We Go From Here? is the first US show of this remarkable collection based in Mexico City. This exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to view select pieces from the largest private collection of contemporary art in Latin America. Mind-blowing both for its size and breadth, La Colección Jumex examines art as a cultural index. By showing contemporary Mexican artists with their international peers, the collection serves to break down old constructs categorizing "Latin American Art" separately from "Contemporary Art" and focuses on inter-collection dialogue: across generations and across geographies. This concept informed the choices in the exhibition as the artists and themes the collection is known for (text in art, art about art and urban anthropology) are represented throughout the show.
The Contemporary Arts Center co-organized this exhibition with the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach and Fundación/Colección Jumex in Mexico City. The show opened in Art Basel Miami before traveling to the Contemporary Arts Center. Artists in the exhibition include: Donald Judd, Andy Warhol, Louise Lawler, Richard Pettibone, Jenny Holzer, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Minerva Cuevas, Daniel Guzmán, Damian Ortega, On Kawara, Jorge Mendez Blake, ‘Moris’ Israel Meza Moreno, Jack Pierson, Ed Ruscha, Paul McCarthy, Gabriel Orozco, Ugo Rondinone and more. A new catalogue has been published in celebration of the exhibition.
