"Is it not time for more people to be thinking about all matters of taste and art with the same clarity of vision they use in buying an automobile or a new dress? In buying furniture the important question is not, 'Does it look like a Louis XV chair?' but rather 'Does it carry out its purpose the most efficient way? Is it well made, by the latest and most practical methods? Is it good material? Is the material a basic part of the beauty? Does it have simple proportions?' These are the fundamental problems the young designers who won the Museum of Modern Art's furniture competition have tried to solve" (Organic Design).
