Alex Lippert will be having an artist talk and reception highlighting creative resistance through tintypes, community, and collaboration.

The artist talk will start at 7pm.

Alex Lippert is a tintype photographer whose large-format work employs the historic wet plate collodion process of the mid-nineteenth century. Rooted in a material practice that embraces slowness and imperfection, her evolving body of work reflects an optimistic commitment to storytelling and to the aesthetic and conceptual possibilities that emerge through process-driven image-making.

By integrating interviews with portraiture, Lippert draws upon her background in qualitative research, advancing the conviction that the personal is inherently political. This methodological and philosophical framework enables her to examine how acts of self-creation—particularly those related to the body, race, and sexuality—become contested sites within contemporary power structures. Her photographs function not only as representations but as critical inquiries into the ways identity is shaped, negotiated, and resisted. Guided by questions on topics such as advocacy, creative resistance, aging, and critical dialogue - Lippert positions art as a catalyst for social engagement and transformation.

Beyond her photographic practice, she is sustained by time spent at her cabin in rural Blue Creek, Ohio, by motherhood, by nurturing deep friendships, and by engagement with local art communities—experiences that all inform and drive the ethical and relational dimensions of her work.
