The National Performance Network/Visual Artists Network WELCOMES the contemporary arts center as a national Partner

The National Performance Network, including its program the Visual Artists Network, (NPN/VAN), is pleased to announce that the NPN/VAN Board of Directors has selected the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) as one of ten new Partners to join NPN/VAN on July 1, 2016.

This concludes a two-year process that considered a number of factors simultaneously including geography, aesthetics, and cultural diversity; values and mission alignment; and expanding new opportunities for artists. NPN/VAN received 100 nominations and invited 45 organizations to submit full applications. From this group, the CAC in Cincinnati was selected as one of ten organizations to join the Network.

The CAC Performance Curator Drew Klein said, “I’m beyond thrilled that we have been invited to join such a distinguished network of some of the country’s most vital and culturally important arts institutions. This is a great recognition of our program’s growth in just over four years’ time, a period in which we have received incredible support from the Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation. We join our friends at the Contemporary Dance Theater in proudly representing the region at NPN, bringing even more powerful arts experiences to Cincinnati, and opening new doors for our city’s artists to introduce their work to the world.”

The CAC Black Box Performance Program has consistently brought diverse performers and audiences to the Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky region for what are often local, national, or world premieres of challenging, engaging performance pieces. By incorporating performance, the CAC stands alone in Cincinnati as a visual arts organization that has expanded its reach to incorporate all forms of art-making. The CAC Black Box Performance series has earned a reputation for progressive, contemporary music performances and experimental theatre, providing a stage for boundary-pushing live art in Cincinnati.

Partnership Committee Chair and Cowles Center Community Engagement Consultant Michèle Steinwald said, “The board and staff National Performance Network/Visual Artists Network conducted thoughtful and sensitive work to come to this decision. The slate of new partners is a dynamic group of organizations, representing varying perspectives and practices across the country.”

The addition of these ten organizations (listed below) expands the Network to 77 NPN and VAN Partners in 47 cities and 31 states across the country. Stanlyn Brevé, Director of National Programs National Performance Network/Visuals Artists Network, stated, “As NPN/VAN begins a new chapter, we are excited by the opportunities and energy that this group of organizations will infuse into the Network.”
