CAC SEASON PREVIEW 2015–2016
The Contemporary Arts Center is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibitions. Curator Steven Matijcio says that "The 2015-16 season will live along the often delicate line between dedication and obsession, featuring a number of artists who work in seemingly endless series to reformulate their surroundings and make better sense of themselves.
MARK MOTHERSBAUGH
MYOPIA
SEPTEMBER 25, 2015 – JANUARY 9, 2016
This retrospective exhibition will bring together the first comprehensive presentation of Akron, Ohio-born Mark Mothersbaugh’s art and music to date, from the beginning of his career in the early 1970s through to the present. This nationally touring exhibition will be accompanied by a major publication published by Princeton Architectural Press.

PIA CAMIL
NOVEMBER 6, 2015 – MARCH 13, 2016
Pia Camil was born in Mexico City and looks to the streets of her native city for inspiration. Her imagery is drawn from urban detritus and appears as disassociated portions of billboards – presenting large canvas paintings that hang like curtains from the gallery ceiling. There will also be a selection of vases that reflect forms established in the hanging works, as part of the young artist’s first solo museum show in the United States.

2015 will mark the 25th anniversary of the CAC’s landmark presentation of Robert Mapplethorpe’s survey exhibition The Perfect Moment. And while 25 years have passed, this event continues to reverberate as much for the artwork on display as for the reactions it inspired, and the historic controversy that ensued. Seven curators from across the tri-state region (Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana) will each select 5 artists who will present new work that measures how Mapplethorpe’s photos, exhibition and censorship shaped the artistic landscape they navigate today.

DO HO SUH
PASSAGE
FEBRUARY 12 – SEPTEMBER 11, 2016
The CAC will present a major survey exhibition of celebrated Korean-American artist Do Ho Suh in 2016. Suh moved to the United States in 1993 and every house he has lived in throughout his life serves as inspiration for remarkable meditations on the legacy of home, place and migration. Each abode becomes manifest in an ongoing series of life-size fabric replicas that float gently, but vividly in space – hovering like constructions of the mind.

MATT KISH & ROBERT DEL TREDICI
CHASING THE WHALE, AND OTHER ENDLESS PURSUITS
APRIL 22 – AUGUST 14, 2016
This exhibition brings together two unheralded artists who imagine the details, detours and interpretations of iconic novels with serial drawings that are as plentiful as they are obsessive. Matt Kish is a Dayton, Ohio-based librarian and self-taught artist who has turned the daily act of drawing into a vehicle for indexing and cataloging his life and experiences. Robert Del Tredici is a graphic artist, photographer and teacher who gave up early studies in the seminary to become an ardent anti-nuclear activist.

CUT, FOLD, RECREATE
APRIL 15 – AUGUST 14, 2016
The artists in Cut, Fold, Recreate reinvent the everyday and make it resonate. Magazines, clothing, rugs, bed sheets, blankets and even popular phrases are taken apart and then rebuilt into something entirely new. The reconstruction thereby entails processes associated with textiles such as cutting then sewing, folding then stacking, unraveling then reforming, or printing on, embroidering or weaving fabric.
