CAC NEEDS YOUR PHOTOS FOR FALL EXHIBITION
(June 27, 2014 Cincinnati, OH) For the 75thanniversary exhibition Memory Palace, ( September 12, 2014- February 22, 2015) the Contemporary Arts Center has commissioned London-based designer and artist Peter Crnokrak (aka “The Luxury of Protest”) to create a work that explores our fluid memories of place. He has chosen the Contemporary Arts Center building as his subject, but needs to see it through your eyes. In his words, “The building is gorgeous and will fit absolutely perfectly into what I'm creating. I'd love if your audience could focus on the mixed material nature of the structure and in particular give me close-ups – texture will figure importantly in the piece.” For instance: an edge of a column, a peak of a stairwell, the corner of a gallery. We have the big picture, but what we need are the finer details of this building from you— we need them from you!
The CAC needs your photos to become part of this unique artwork. Please visit the Contemporary Arts Center on 44 East Sixth Street, walk around, explore and see what your eye captures through your digital photographs. You can submit up to 5 photos if you wish. When complete please send them to Chris Perbix at cperbix@contemporaryartscenter.org with your name. Photos should be in JPEG format, at a resolution of 300dpi. The deadline is August 1, 2014 but earlier submissions are welcome. If your photo is selected by Peter you will receive a name credit on the text label and in the artwork. Please contribute your vision to this artwork and exhibition, and become part of our 75th anniversary celebration!

The Luxury of Protest is the pen name of London-based designer and artist Peter Crnokrak. Established in 2009, the practice is an experimental design platform that develops both commercial and critical design projects that transcend traditional reference points of purpose and authorship within the profession. Projects are concept driven and utilize design language to communicate meaning in complex systems. The practice is a continual crossover between art, design and new technologies with work that addresses culturally relevant themes including geopolitics, generative aesthetics and the integration of art and science.

On the occasion of the CAC’s 75thanniversary this exhibition will present memory as soft, malleable clay. Rather than galvanizing history or renewing the supposed fixity of facts, Memory Palace will instead revel in remembering as a creative act: highlighting the way our recollections shift actual histories into imperfect, but quintessentially human legacies. Proposed artists for this landmark exhibition include Louise Bourgeois, Stan Douglas, Simon Evans, Spencer Finch, Mike Kelley, William Kentridge, Guillermo Kuitca, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, Hans Op de Beeck, Dennis Oppenheim, Katrin Sigurdardottir, Robert Smithson and Andro Wekua. The CAC's extended family of staff, donors, crew, members and citizens will also contribute to this project as we gather their stories in a variety of formats, from video interviews to drawings.
