Artist Details
Yun Gee was born in 1906 in Jiangmen, China. He graduated in 1925 from the San Francisco Art Institute. Gee has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at The San Francisco Art Center, San Francisco, CA (1933); International Print Society, New York, NY (1944); Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei, Taiwan (1992); and Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena, CA (2003-04). He has also participate in numerous group exhibitions, including The Forty-Ninth Annual Exhibition of the San Francisco Art Association, California School of Fine Arts, San Francisco, CA (1927); Paintings, Sculpture, and Drawings by American and Foreign Artists, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, NY (1931); Paintings by Fifty Oncoming Americans, Boston Institute of Modern Art, Boston, MA (1941); Inaugural Exhibition, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (1974); Made in California: Art, Image, and Identity, 1900-2000, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2000-01); and Crossing the Pacific Ocean – Early Cantonese Artists Studying in the United States, Art Museum of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou, China (2022). Gee died in 1963 in New York, NY.
