"born in Louisiana, 1918. His father came from France as a young man and married Anita Edith Phelps, a daughter of an old Louisiana Family. On his mother's side he has an English, Bavarian and Hindu ancestry; hence the name Yudhisthira. Coming to new York in 1935, he studied at the Design Laboratory, an off-shoot of the Bauhaus. He continued his travels abroad in France, Holland, Belgium and England. After a year's absence he began the serious study of the ancient Indian Scriptures, including Gupta, Hindu and Buddhist iconography.
