Artist Details


Walter Darby Bannard was born in 1934 in New Haven, CT. He graduated in 1952 from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, including at Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, CA (1973); Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC (1983); Lowe Art Museum, Coral Gables, FL (1999); and Center for Visual Communication, Miami, FL (2009). Bannard has also participated in several group exhibitions, including The Responsive Eye, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1965); 11 American Artists, Musee D'Art Contemporain, Montreal, Canada (1973); Modernism and Abstraction, Palm Springs Desert Museum, Palm Springs, CA (2005); and The First Decade, The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, Sedalia, MO (2012). Bannard died in 2016 in Miami, FL.
