Painter Vivian E. Browne was born in 1929 in Laurel, FL. She received a BS in 1950 and BFA in 1959, both from Hunter College in New York, NY. She also studied at the University of Ibadan in Ibadan, Nigeria in 1972. Browne has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Rhode Island College, Providence, RI (1973); the Bronx Museum, New York, NY (1985); and Bakersfield College Art Gallery, Bakersfield, CA (1993). Browne has also participated in many group exhibitions, including In Honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1968); El Camino a Cuba, El Choppo Museum of Art, Mexico City, Mexico (1986); and Afro-American Images 1971: The Vision of Percy Ricks, Delaware Art Museum, Wilmington, DE (2021). Browne died in 1993 in Manhattan, NY.
