Painter and sculptor Victor Brauner was born in 1903 in Piatra Neamt, Romania. He graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania in 1918. Recent exhibitions of his work include For Your Eyes Only, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice, Italy (2014); Mad About Surrealism, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (2017); Spirit, Are You There? The Painters of the Beyond, Musée Maillol, Paris, France (2020); and Surrealism and Magic: Enchanted Modernity, Museum Barberini, Potsdam, Germany (2022-23). Brauner died in 1966 in Paris, France.
