Vernon Fisher was born in 1943 in Fort Worth, TX. He received his BA from Hardin-Simmons University in 1967 and his MFA from the University of Illinois in 1969. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Tyler Museum of Art, Tyler, TX (1973); Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1990); Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, TX (2010); and the University of North Texas Art Gallery, Denton, TX (2019). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Exchange DFW/SFO, The Fort Worth Art Museum, Fort Worth, TX; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1975); Awards in the Visual Arts 7, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (1988); The Cultural Desert: Inside Contemporary Sculpture, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, AZ (2002); and The End of Innocence, Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT (2022). Fisher died in 2023.
