Tim Hawkinson

Biography

Tim Hawkinson was born in 1960 in San Francisco, CA. He received a BFA in 1984 from San Jose State University and his MFA in 1989 from University of California. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA (1996); Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (2001); and Exploratorium, San Francisco, CA (2015). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including at Painted, Tinted, Tainted Sculpture, San Jose Museum of Art, CA (1984); The Scream: Borealis 8, Arken Museum of Modern Art, Copenhagen, Denmark (1996); Skin of/in Contemporary Art, National Museum of Art, Osaka, Japan (2007); and To Bough and To Bend, Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu, CA (2022-23). Hawkinson currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
