Photographer and sculptor Thomas Demand was born in 1964 in Munich, Germany. He received his BFA from the University of London in London, UK. Demand has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna, Austria (2009); Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles (2015); Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2021); and Museum of Contemporary Art, Toronto, Canada (2022). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Damage Control: Art and Destruction Since 1950, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC (2013); Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 1905—2016, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2016-17); Continuously Contemporary. New Works from the Emanuel-Hoffmann-Stiftung, Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel (2020); and space for imaginative actions, Kunstmuseum Bonn, Bonn (2022). Demand currently lies and works in Berlin, Germany.
