Interdisciplinary artist Terry Adkins was born in 1953 in Washington, DC. He received his BS from Fisk University, Nashville, TN in 1975, his Masters from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois in 1977, and his MFA from University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY in 1979. Adkins has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including Firmament RHA, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1995); Recital, Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, Saratoga Springs, NY (2012); and Projects 107: Lone Wolf Recital Corps, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY(2017). Adkins has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Cadences: Icon and Abstraction in Context, New Museum, New York, NY (1991); Required Nuance, Studio Museum, Harlem, NY (1995); Ensemble, Institute for Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, PA (2007); and Promise, Witness, Remembrance, Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY (2021). Adkins died in 2014 in New York, NY.
