Tara Donovan was born in 1969 in New York, NY. She received a BFA in 1991 from Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC and her MFA in 1999 from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Donovan has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland, OH (2003-04); The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2007); and Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, CO (2018). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Print Matters: New Works and Modern Treasures, Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Richmond, VA (2001); Bizarre Perfection, Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel (2008); Wonder, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC (2015); and Care and Feeding: The Art of Parenthood, Palo Alto Art Center, Palo Alto, CA (2018). Donovan currently lives and works in New York, NY.
