Sydney Butches was born in 1922 in Covington, KY. He has participated in many group exhibitions, including Museum Acquisitions, Colorado Springs Art Center, Colorado Springs, CO; Painting Out from the Wall, Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, IA; Painting Without a Brush, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, MA; and Art for the Collector, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (all 2006). Butchkes died in 2015 in Sagaponack, NY.
