Illustrator and printmaker Sue Coe was born in 1951 in Tamworth, UK. She received a BA in 1970 from Chelsea College of Arts and an MA in 1973 from the Royal College of Art. Coe's work has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA (1986); Maryland Art Place, Baltimore, MD (1993); and Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, OR (2007). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Portraits, American Institute of Graphic Arts New York, NY (1977); The New Avant Garde, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (1987); Art on the Edge, Museum of Modern Art New York, NY (1997); Make Art / Stop AIDS, Fowler Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2008); and Rising Sun: Artists in An Uncertain America, Pennsylvania Academy of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA (2023). Coe currently lives and works in New York.
