Stephen Greene

Biography

Stephen Greene was born in 1917 in New York, NY. he received his BFA in 1942 and his MA in 1945, both from State University of Iowa. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1963); St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO (1989); and Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA (2003). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including American Painting Today, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (1950); Twenty Years of American Painting, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1973); Abstraction from the Collection, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA (2009); and Surface Truths: Abstract Painting of the ‘Sixties, Norton Simon Museum of Art, Pasadena, CA (2011). Greene died in 1999 in Valley, Cottage, NY.
