Painter Sonia Getchtoff was born in 1926 in Philadelphia, PA. She studied at the Philadelphia Museum. School of Art. She has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at the De Young Museum, San Francisco, CA (1957); and Montclair State College, Montclair, NJ (1974). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including America Drawn & Matched, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1977); New Dimensions in Drawing, 1950–1980, Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT (1981); and American Art - American Women, Stamford Museum, Stamford, CT (1985-86). Getchtoff died in 2018 in The Bronx, NY.
