Sarah Charlesworth was born in 1947 in East Orange, NJ. She received a BFA in 1969 from Barnard College in New York, NY. Charlesworth has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Centre d'Art Contemporain, Geneva, Switzerland (1978); The Clocktower, New York, NY (1984); The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (2014); and Printed Matter, New York, NY (2020). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including The Altered Photograph, MoMA PS1, Long Island City, NY (1979); Fabrications, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1988); Civic Art In Sienese Villages: Three Contemporary Artists Create Public Works, Museo Santa Maria Della Scala, Siena, Italy (1998); Images et (Re)Presentations, Centre National d’Art Contemporain, Grenoble, France (2009); and Vicolo della Penitenza 11/A, Museum of Contemporary Art, Rome, Italy (2023). Charlesworth died in 2013 in Falls Village, CT.
