Sandro Chia was born in 1946 in Florence, Italy. He graduated in 1969 from Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Chia has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Städtisches Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, Germany (1982); Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna, Austria (1989); Espace des Arts, Chalon sur Saône, France (1993); Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Tokyo, Japan (2009); and Hangaram Art Museum, Seoul, South Korea (2015). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Après le classicisme, Musée d'Art et Industrie, St-Etienne, France (1980); Seascapes in Confrontation, Museum of Modern Art, Ostend, Belgium (2003); La Divina Commedia, Centro Italiano Arte Contemporanea, Foligno, Italy (2015); and Works on Paper and Wood, HilgerBrot Kunsthalle, Wien, Austria (2016). Chia currently lives and works between Miami, FL, Rome, and Montalcino, Italy.
