Artist Details
Samuel Fosso was born in 1962 in Kumba, Cameroon. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Centre National de la Photographie, Paris, France (1995); Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, Calcografia, Roma, Italy; Centro Internazionale di Fotografia Scavi Scaligeri, Verona, Italy (2004); National Portrait Gallery, London, UK (2017); and Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, Germany (2022). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including In/sight: African Photographers, 1940 to the Present, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (1996); The Whole World is Rotten, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2006); Performing for the Camera, Tate Modern, London, UK (2016); and Afro-Atlantic Histories, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA (2022). Fosso currently lives and works between Bangui, Central African Republic and Paris, France.
