Biography

Artist, activist, educator, and scholar Samia Halaby was born in 1936 in Palestine. She received a BS in Design from University of Cincinnati in 1959, an MA in Painting from Michigan State University in 1960, and an MFA in Painting from Indiana University in 1963. Halaby has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at Housatonic Museum, Bridgeport, CT (1983); Tompkins County Public Library, Ithaca, NY (2006); Beirut Exhibition Center, Beirut, Lebanon (2015); and Birzeit University Museum, Birzeit, West Bank, Palestine (2017). She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Nine Connecticut Artists, The Wadsworth Athenaeum, Hartford, CT (1974); Forces of Change, National Museum of Women, Washington DC (1994); Palestine: La création dans tous ses états, Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris, France (2009); Seeing Through Light: Selections from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Collection, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (2014); and Self: Portraits of Artists in Their Absence, National Academy Museum, New York, NY (2015).
