Interdisciplinary artist Sam Durant was born in 1961 in Seattle, WA. He received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA and his MFA from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA. Durant has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, CT (2002); Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Rome, Italy (2013); Kemper Art Museum, St. Louis, MO (2015); and University of Essex, Colchester, UK (2023). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Slipstream, Center for Contemporary Art, Glasgow, UK (1998); Street Signs and Solar Ovens: Socialcraft in Los Angeles, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2006); Drawing Dialogues: The Sol LeWitt Collection, The Drawing Center, New York, NY (2016); and Youth vs. Crisis: A Generation in Search of a Future, Kunsthalle Bremen, Germany (2023). Durant currently lives and works between Berlin, Germany and Los Angeles, CA.
