Sam Cady was born in 1943 in Boothbay Harbor, ME. He received a BA in 1965 from University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH and an MFA in 1967 from India University in Bloomington, IN. He has been the subject of various solo exhibitions, including at Hampshire College, Amherst, MA (1978); Round Top Arts Center, Damariscotta, ME (1994); Heritage Museum and Gardens, Sandwich, MA; and Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockland, ME (both in 2017). Cady has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including New Directions/New Choices, Jamaica Arts Center, Jamaica, NY (1976); Prize Goods: Art and Artifacts Captured for the Collections, Peabody-Essex Museum, Salem, MA (1997); Past, Present, Future, Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockport, ME (2002); and 181st Annual Exhibition, National Academy of Design, New York, NY (2006). Cady currently lives and works in Friendship, ME.
