Sadie Benning was born in1973 in Madison, WI. They received an MFA in 1997 from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Benning has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including Sadie Benning Retrospective Series, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (2004); Play Pause, The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (2009); Sleep Rock, Camden Arts Centre, London, UK (2018); and Intangible Cigarette, Air de Paris, Romainville, France (2023). They have also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Videorama: A Celebration of International Video Art, New York Film Festival, New York, NY (1992); Loves Body, Tokyo Museum of Photography, Tokyo, Japan (1999); Off Series, Part II, Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv, Israel (2010); and Don’t let this be easy, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN (2020). Benning currently lives and works in New York, NY.
