Artist Details
Rudolf Baranik was born in 1920 in Lithuania. He studied at The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1946-47); Art Students League, New York, NY (1947-48); Academie Julian, Paris, France (1948); and Academie Léger, Paris, France (1948-51). Baranik has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including those at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ; The New School, New York, NY (both 1973); University of Arizona Museum of Art at University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ (2000-01); and Jersey City Museum, Jersey City, NJ (2003-04). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Exhibition of Contemporary American Painting, Brooklyn Museum, New York, NY (1958); Painting and Sculpture Today, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, IN (1974); The Contemporary Fine Arts Exhibition: American Jewish Tercentenary, Jewish Education Building, Chicago, IL (1995); and Artists Respond: American Art and the Vietnam War, 1965-1975, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC (2019). Baranik died in 1998 in El Dorado, NM.
