Painter Robert Goodnough was born in 1917 in Cortland, NY. He attended Amadee Ozenfant School of Fine Arts, Hans Hoffman School of Art, and the New School for Social Research. In 1950 he received an MA in Art Education from New York University. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1960, 1961); The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY (1969); and Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, NY (1999). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Hans Hofmann and His Students, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1964); The Americans: The Collage, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Houston, TX (1982); and The Abstract Impulse: Fifty Years of Abstraction at the National Academy, 1956-2006, The National Academy Museum, New York, NY (2007). Goodnough died in White Plains, NY.
