Robert Gober

Biography

Robert Gober was born in 1954 in Wallingford, CT. He received his BA in 1976 from Middlebury College. He has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including at The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL (1988); Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel, Swizterland (1995); Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver, CO (2010); and Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel, Switzerland (2023). He has also participated in many group exhibitions, including Permanent Collection: Recent Acquisitions and Painting and Sculpture Since 1945, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN (1985); Allegories of Modernism: Contemporary Drawing, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1992); The Museum, the Collection, the Director and his Loves, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt, Germany (2002); At the Hub of Things: New Views of the Collection, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC (2014); and Before Tomorrow – Astrup Fearnley Museet 30 Years, Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo, Norway (2023). Gober currently lives and works in New York, NY.
