Painter and printmaker Robert Cottingham was born in 1935 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1963 he received a BFA from the Pratt Institute in New York, NY. Cottingham has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Springfield Art Museum, Springfield, OH (1986); Triton Museum, Santa Clara, CA (1994); and National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1998). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Close Focus: Prints, Drawings and Photographs, National Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC (1987); and Coming of Age: Twenty-one Years of Collecting, Madison Arts Center, Madison, WI (1989).
