Artist Details

Biography

Robbie Conal was born in 1944 in New York, NY. He received his BFA in 1969 from San Francisco State University and his MFA in 1978 from Stanford University. Conal has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at The Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA (1990); San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA (2000); Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica, CA (2009); and The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery, Cuesta College, San Luis Obispo, CA (2016). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Approaches to Drawing, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1981); It’s Only Rock and Roll, Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, AZ and Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (1995-98); Infinite Jest: Caricature & Satire from Leonardo to Levine, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY (2011); and Sidewalk Activism, Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside, CA (2020). Conal currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
