Artist Details
Richard Hawkins was born in 1961 in Mexia, TX. He received a BFA in 1984 from University of Texas and an MFA in 1988 from California Institute of the Arts. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the Kunstverein Heilbronn, Heilbronn, Germany (2003); De Appel Center for Contemporary Art, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2007); Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2010); and Tate Liverpool, Liverpool, UK (2014). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Pure Beauty: Some Recent Work from Los Angeles, American Center, Paris, France; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA (1994); STUFF: International Contemporary Art from the Collection of Burt Aaron, Museum of Contemporary Art, Detroit, MI (2007); and Together in Time: Selections from the Hammer Contemporary Collection, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2023). Hawkins currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
