Artist Details

Biography

Richard Diebenkorn was born in 1922 in Portland, OR. He received a BA in 1949 from Stanford University in Stanford, CA and an MFA in 1951 from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, NM. Diebenkorn has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, CA (1948); The Drawings of Richard Diebenkorn, The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC (1989); Richard Diebenkorn: Prints 1948-1993, Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY (2004); and Richard Diebenkorn: The Ocean Park Series, Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA (2010). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Contemporary Bay Area Figurative Paintings, Oakland Art Museum, Oakland, CA (1958); Six Americans, Arkansas Art Center, Little Rock, AR (1964); and Yes, No, Maybe, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (2013). Diebenkorn died in 1993 in Berkeley, CA.
