Biography

Richard Bloes was born in 1951 in Waterloo, IA. He received his BA in 1973, Ma in 1976, and MFA in 1977, all from University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. Bloes has been the subject of several solo exhibitions, including Land Slide, P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City, NY (1984); Time Spans, East End Art Center, Riverhead, NY (1990); Traveler, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH (1993); and Metro Card Merry-Go-Round +3, We All Fall Down, Envoy Enterprises, New York, NY (2016). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including New York Foundation Video Fellows, New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, NY (1986); GADGET: Mechanics and Motion in Contemporary Art, Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2006); State of the Union: Contemporary Craft in Dialogue, Philadelphia Art Alliance, Philadelphia, PA (2009); and Tonal Vision, White Box Art Center, New York, NY (2015). Bloes lives and works in Lake Carmel, NY.
