Ralph Eugene Meatyard was born in 1925 in Normal, IL. He has ben the subject of many solo exhibitions, including at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA (1959); J.B. Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY (1971); International Center of Photography, New York, NY (2004-05); and University of Kentucky Art Museum, Lexington, KY (2023). He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Sense of Abstraction, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (1959); Photography: A Facet of Modernism, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA (1986); The Faceless Figure – Photographs from the Collection, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA (2003); Edgelands, Camden Arts Centre, London, UK (2015); and A Long Arc: Photography and the American South since 1845, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA (2023). Meatyard died in 1972 in Lexington, KY.
