Biography

Polly Apfelbaum was born in 1955 in Abington Township, PA. She received a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 1978 in Elkins Park, PA. Apfelbaum has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including Still Lives, Hallways Contemporary Arts Center, Buffalo, NY (1986); The Night, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco, CA (1997); Stax, Carlow Visual Center for Contemporary Art, Carlow, Ireland (2009); Chromatic Scale: Prints by Polly Apfelbaum, National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC (2017); and Waiting for the UFO's (a space between a landscape and a bunch of flowers), Kemper Museum, Kansas City, MO (2019). Apfelbaum has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Artists in the Marketplace, Bronx Museum of Art, Bronx, NY (1986); Painting Function: Making it Real, SPACES, Cleveland, OH (2000); Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts, London, UK (2014); and Flames: The Age of Ceramics, Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, Paris, France (2021). Apfelbaum currently lives and works in New York City, NY.
