Pierre Alechinsky was born 1927 in Schaerbeek, Belgium. He graduated from École nationale supérieure d'Architecture et des Arts décoratifs in 1948 in Brussels, Belgium. He has been the subject of many solo exhibitions, including Fêtes et trouble-fête, peintures, Galerie Apollo, Brussels, Belgium (1948); Alechinsky, Centre Pompidou, Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris, France (1978); 50 ans d’imprimerie, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Quebec, Canada (2003); and Alechinsky à l'imprimerie, Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, Chaumont-sur-Loire, France (2023). He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Contemporary Painters and Sculptors as Printmakers, Museum of Modern Art, New York City, NY (1964); Cobra & the Stedelijk, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Netherlands (1996); L’art belge. Entre rêves et réalités. Chefs-d’oeuvre du Musée d’Ixelles, Musée des beaux-arts de La Chaux-de-Fonds, Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2014); and Surrealism Beyond Borders, Tate, London, United Kingdom (2022). Alechinsky currently lives and works in Paris, France.
