Biography

Multidisciplinary artist Pia Camil was born in 1980 in Mexico City, Mexico. She received a BFA in 2003 from Rhode Island School of Design in Providence RI and an MFA in 2008 from The Sladed School of Fine Art in London, UK. Camil has been the subject of many solo exhibitions and performances, including at Basque Museum Center of Contemporary Art, Vitoria, Spain (2013); Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, OH (2015); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY (2019); and Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson, AZ (2021). She has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Morir de Amor, National Autonomous University Museum of Contemporary Art, Mexico City, Mexico (2005); Pia Camil, Pablo Helguera, Pedro Reyes, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, Middlesbrough, UK (2015); and Beautiful Repair: Mending in art and fashion, Copenhagen Contemporary, Copenhagen, Denmark (2023). Camil currently lives and works between Acatitlan and Mexico City, Mexico.
